Updated Guidance for Statutory Sick Pay paid to employees due to coronavirus (COVID-19)

HMRC have set up a new scheme to enable employers meeting the criteria to reclaim Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) paid for absences due to the coronavirus.

HMRC has today published some new guidelines, which include information about:

  1. Who can use the scheme, and
  2. The records employers must keep.

Please note, existing systems are not set up for this kind of reimbursement.  There will be a new online service called The Statutory Sick Pay Rebate Scheme, which employers will use to reclaim Statutory Sick Pay for employees who are sick due to coronavirus.

HMRC will announce when the new online service is available.  When the service is available HMRC will also update their guidance which can be accessed below.

We will continue to update you as we are given more information.
